  • TOCO-Willbros consortium bids low for Al-Kawther pipeline project

The Oman Construction Company (TOCO) along with US-based Willbros Group has submitted a low bid of RO 36.9 million ($93.6 million) for the pipeline package on the Al-Kawther gas-gathering project. Its offer was about 8 percent lower than the next quote of RO 39.5 million ($101.3 million) from India’s Punj Lloyd. Four companies submitted commercial bids by the mid-October deadline to Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract will cover the installation of an 18-inch-diameter, 104 KM long condensate pipeline from Al-Kawther gas plant to the central processing plant at Saih Rawl and a 36-inch, 80-kilometre export gas line from Al-Kawther to the Oman Gas Company pipeline at block valve station 2.

The combined front-end engineering and design (FEED) and EPC contract on the plant element of the project was awarded in July to a team of UAE-based Petrofac International and the local Galfar Engineering & Contracting. The contract is worth $248 million. It includes the installation of gas gathering and treatment facilities, a cathodic protection system and associated works at the Al-Kawther field, which contains estimated reserves of about 1 trillion cubic feet.
